Cooktop and Range Repair

Cooktop Repairs

The kitchen is the heart of the home.  So when the range or cook-top is not working well, the whole home feels it.  Happily, most ranges and cooktops are simple in the way they operate.  This makes for easy repair, generally speaking.  If you are in the Los Angeles area, these repairs can be handled by our friendly and helpful staff.  You can have dinner on the table right on schedule.

Electric cooktops and ranges

Lets take a look at how these all important appliances work and go over a few tips to diagnosing a problem. There are two types of ranges and cooktops, gas and electric. Electric ranges work using surface heating elements powered by electricity. Electric cooktops and ranges operate on a 240/120 volt circuit. These appliances can last a long time.  Eventually, however, these heating elements can burn out, switches can fail as can control panel fuses. For the gas range or cooktop, the most common problems usually involve the supply and ignition of gas in the burners and oven. The best way to keep your appliances running the way you expect, is to maintain them properly. In the case of ranges and cook-tops, keeping them clean is the most effective way to prevent problems.

Not all problems can be avoided. Perhaps the oven temperature is way off, or it just quit. Maybe the burner on the electric cook-top is not heating up or your gas stove is just ticking non-stop. What can be done? Here are a few tips.   Remember to always unplug your appliances beforehand.

If your electric range burner won't heat up, check to see if the  bad burner is pitted or scorched in comparison the the ones that do heat up.  If it is, it may need to be replaced. You can check however, by removing the burner and testing one of the other burners in its place. Be sure the burner you try is the correct size. Another suggestion is to make sure the burner itself is properly connected.

Gas Burner

Suppose your gas burner will not light, it may be that one or two parts need a cleaning. Before starting, make sure knobs are in the off position and that the gas is switched off. The first place to check would be the pilot. Clean it first and then try to light it.  If that doesn't do it, the next part to look at is the burner assembly. Again, clean it and try to light the burner afterward.  If the cooktop has an electrical ignition the problem may be the spark ignition.
